On March 15, 2024, 2024 International Conference on Digital Economy and Artificial Intelligence in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (DEAI 2024) was held at the Songshan Lake Campus of Guangdong University of Technology. Experts, scholars, and outstanding paper authors from both domestic and international backgrounds shared their latest research findings on topics such as "Digital Economy" and "Artificial Intelligence." They discussed key issues in the field and explored future development directions to promote the high-quality development of the digital economy in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
The conference was jointly organized by Guangdong University of Technology, the Macao Central and Western Innovation Institute, the Greater Bay Area Industry-Education Alliance, and Guangdong Bosi Cloud Science and Education Technology Co., Ltd. It was co-hosted by the School of Computer Science, the School of Management, and the School of Finance at Guangdong University of Technology, as well as the Greater Bay Area Research Institute for Industry-Education Integration, the Digital Economy Studio of Renowned Social Scientist Chen Biaoxin in Dongguan, and the AEIC Academic Exchange Center. The event was also supported by the Cross-Border E-Commerce Working Committee of the China Foreign Trade Economic Cooperation Enterprise Association, the Digital Economy and Cross-Border E-Commerce Special Committee of the China Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Association, the Research Subcommittee on Industry-Education Integration and School-Enterprise Cooperation of the Guangdong Higher Education Society, and the Guangdong Youth Science and Technology Innovation Association.
More than 160 experts, scholars, faculty, and students from over 40 domestic and international universities and research institutions—including the Macao Central and Western Innovation Institute, Lasalle University in the Philippines, Nanjing Agricultural University, Liaoning University of Science and Technology, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Guangdong Youth Science and Technology Innovation Association, the Economic Research Center of Dongguan Social Sciences Academy, and Suzhou International Development Group—attended the conference in person. Additionally, over 7,000 faculty, students from more than 20 renowned universities, including the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, South China University of Technology, Xiangtan University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of Macau, and Macau University of Science and Technology, as well as various members of society, participated online.

He stated that the digital economy has become a new engine for global economic development, with artificial intelligence serving as a key driving force behind this process. The intersection of the "digital economy" and "artificial intelligence" fields provides an unparalleled platform for research and innovation in both academia and industry. As the organizers of this event, Guangdong University of Technology and the Macao Institute for Innovation aim to align with the economic development needs of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area by advancing the construction of disciplines in digital economy and artificial intelligence, and actively promoting the integration of digital technology and industry. He expressed his hope that this conference will facilitate the sharing of cutting-edge academic ideas and outcomes, strengthen cooperation and communication between universities and enterprises, and contribute to the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Prof. Yanzhi Ren from the University of Electronic Science and Technology, were among the five experts who delivered keynote speeches at the conference. Prof. Wenbing Zhao from Cleveland State University delivered a keynote speech titled "Blockchain: Fundamental Principles and Its Economic Functions" via remote video conference. He systematically introduced the foundational concepts of blockchain, its historical development, and its role in economic functions, particularly its potential as a financial infrastructure and the challenges it faces.

The conference chair, Prof. Jiaojiang Luo from Wuhan University, delivered a keynote speech titled "The Development of Artificial Intelligence and the Transformation of Social Science Research." He introduced the impact of AI development on the revolution in social sciences, as well as the trends in the transformation of social science research. He proposed that the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence will trigger a profound revolution in social sciences, shifting the research paradigm from traditional metrics to computational paradigms.Prof. Jiaojiang Luo also emphasized that the era of artificial intelligence presents a historic opportunity for China to enhance its discourse power in international social sciences. He stressed that constructing and innovating social science theories to explain China's experiences is an urgent task that is vital for the development of social sciences in China.

Prof. Shengli Zhang, Vice Dean of the School of Electronics and Information Engineering at Shenzhen University, delivered a keynote speech titled "Scalable Blockchain for TPS." He provided a detailed analysis of the working principles of blockchain and its fundamental performance limitations. He presented a method for improving Transactions Per Second (TPS) known as the Blockless Block Protocol (BBP), which aims to approach the theoretical limit of TPS by validating transactions in advance through the propagation of the blockchain only. Additionally, Prof. Shengli Zhang engaged with the audience in discussions about the possibilities of compact blocks compatible with Ethereum and further optimizing blockchain performance through the Hybrid Compact Block Protocol (HCB), as well as the feasibility of the BBP approach.

Prof. Heyong Wang, Deputy Director of the Teaching Guidance Committee for E-commerce Majors in Guangdong Province and from the School of Economics and Trade at South China University of Technology, delivered a keynote speech titled "The Application of Artificial Intelligence in E-commerce." He introduced the applications of AI in internet advertising recognition and discussed the transformative impact of AI on the development of e-commerce. Additionally, Prof. Heyong Wang elaborated on how to utilize AI technology to enhance the service quality of online shopping platforms and presented a framework for generating personalized product review summaries. He showcased the immense potential and practical application value of AI technology in the e-commerce industry.

Assoc. Prof. Yanzhi Ren from the University of Electronic Science and Technology delivered a keynote speech titled "Research on Implicit Dual-Factor Authentication for Mobile Devices Based on Active Acoustic Sensing.” He shared foundational research on dual-factor authentication for mobile devices utilizing active acoustic sensing, introduced the Proximity-Echo system, and elaborated on the basic concept and implementation framework for extracting location signatures through the transmission and reception of acoustic signals for proximity detection. Additionally, Assoc. Prof. Yanzhi Ren proposed a novel energy loss compensation extraction scheme to achieve precise proximity detection, and through extensive experiments, validated the accuracy of the proposed system as well as its robustness against man-in-the-middle attacks and collocation attacks.

During the conference, the Greater Bay Area Industry-Education Integration Research Institute held an appointment ceremony for distinguished experts.
